In Nowheresville, where the fox and the hare bid each other goodnight and where chickens need crampons, lies the idyllic Val D'Ultimo/Ultental Valley. The 40 km long valley, located in the southern corner of the valley basin of Merano/Meran that runs parallel to Venosta /Vinschgau Valley, is one of South Tyrol’s most pristine and traditional valleys.
During the summer months, when farmers are haymaking, it is the perfect time for mountaineering, mountain biking, jogging, and Nordic walking. In winter, when the valley is wrapped in silence, it is the perfect time for practising your favourite sports, using the features of the landscape; whether skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, sledging, ice skating, snowshoeing or ski touring, you have lots of possibilities to choose from.
Ultental Valley’s landscape impresses with its unspoilt nature, centuries-old farms, which are surrounded by lush green meadows as well as forests, numerous natural and artificial lakes, romantic Alpine cabins and majestic peaks.
Santa Gertrude/Sankt Gertraud, the last village, is where the Stelvio/Stilfserjoch National Park begins. This protected area is intended to preserve nature and its biodiversity.
